PROLOUGE

Time Keepers. Faye didn't even know they actually existed. They where being that served under the Time-Lord known simply as "The Entity" from what her mother used to tell her. They could control time, and use it as a tool. They acted like mediators. they froze great wars, brought back the innocent to life and vanquished evildoers. She never thought they where real, and yet there was one standing before her with his hand outstretched to her.

"Come with me, young one." he said with a smile. Faye looked back at the burning village she lived in, orange flames devoured everything. Black smoke billowed from their fierce lapping edges. "Damn bandits" she thought to herself, clutching her blood soaked blade in her hands. They came too fast, slaughtering everyone in sight.
"There was nothing you could have done." Said the keeper with a slightly less enthusiastic expression. Faye bit her lip to hold back the tears welling in her eyes, she was never the type to cry. She knew that if she helplessly bawled, it wouldn't bring her family back. She looked up at the Keeper, the orange flame reflected in his white eyes.

"Where will you take me?" she asked, the keeper smiled widely, revealing a pair of large canines.
"To a place where time is only a tool!" he explained, Faye wiped the blood from her blade on the grass and put it back into the scabbard on the ground next to her then stood up.
"Why must I go?" she asked. The keeper looked her directly in the eyes, an eerie feeling creped over her as the pearls stared through her.
"The Entity calls you, young one.." he said as he put his hand on her shoulder. "you have the gift." He closed his eyes and smiled as the world melted from beneath them, and was soon replaced by a dark room. The keeper faded as the world came into focus. The orange glow of flames no longer lit the air, and the smoky smell had vanished. Large stone pillars extended into the swirling darkness above her, the room was dimply lit by faintly glowing crystals. At the far end of the room floated two blue oval lights. A whisper echoed through the room.

"Welcome Faye, to Sel' Ani home of the Time keepers." it said. Faye squinted at the ovals, and a shadowy outline came into view. Eyes. The figure stepped into the light, shrouded in black hooded robes that looked centuries old.

"Why have you brought me here?" she asked. The gaze of the robed figure pierced into her mind as she fell to her knees unwillingly.
"You have a gift, my child." it whispered. It's long blue hair floated about it, as if suspended in water.

"Who, what are you?" asked Faye, still on her knees.
"I am the Entity."

CHAPTER ONE: Trapped!

Orange flame roared violently all around Faye. Smoke clogged her lungs and ash clung to her snow white hair. She frantically looked around for a place to escape, hot embers fell around her as the heavy wooden beams collapsed. She could barely breathe, the air was thick as soup. She fell to the ground, gasping for breath as she closed her eyes and waited for it to end.

The blazing heat of the fire was replaced by a cool breeze, the wild roar dulled into a quiet hum. A loud beep made her eyes jolt open. The burning walls where replaced by the light blue interior of her living quarters. A fan was set on her desk next to the bed she slept upon, blowing a cool breeze across her face and humming quietly. The beep rang from the door once again.
"A dream, only a dream." she whispered to herself as she crawled from her bed, leaving the covers in a mess. She let out a tired sigh and grabbed a light blue towel from the sink next to her desk and wiped the sweat from her brow.
"Faye, are you in there?" asked a deep voice from behind the large metal door, slightly muffled. She threw the damp towel into the hamper across from the bed, on the other side of the dark room.
"It's open!" she yelled, making sure it was loud enough to be heard. The door slid open automatically and a man walked into her quarters, bashing his shin on the low coffee table sitting directly in front of the doorway. He gave out a stout yelp as he grasped where he had been hit, he pricked one of his large, furry ears toward Faye's stifled giggling.

"Look where you're walking, you clumsy mutt!" said Faye between giggles.

"This mutt has a name, and its Sye." he said through his sharp teeth. He moved the table aside and turned on the lights by pushing a small white button on the panel near the door. "Maybe if you had the lights on, I wouldn't have hurt myself."
"But that ruins the fun!" said Faye with a grin. "besides, can't dogs see well in the dark?"
"I'm human too, you know." Sye argued, flicking his long brown tail to and fro in annoyance.
"I know." said Faye as she flopped back down on her messy bed. "what did you need to see me at this time for?"

Sye looked at her through his bright yellow eyes. "It's about your master, Nalu." Faye sat up at the mention of her mentor.
"What about him?" she asked intensely, her blue eyes full of worry. Sye started flicking his tail again.
"He's gone missing." he said in a grim voice.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"What happened to him?" asked Faye as they made their way to the Central Node. Sye looked at the floor, as if he was thinking of what to say. Two other Time Keepers where with them, he looked up at each of them, and they nodded to him to reassure him of his choice.
"We think he is caught in a Time Rift." he explained. Faye looked surprised, Time Rifts where fractures in the Timestream. Sometimes they are caused by massive explosions, like supernovas. The humans in modern time frames called them "Black Holes". The distortion caused by the rifts made gravity stronger around them, pulling everything around them into it.

"Did you contain it?" She asked.
"Yes, it was no easy task, it's very unstable."
"Don't the fractures stabilize naturally?"
"Yes, but this one seems different… it seems to stabilize for a second or two, then revert back to a swirling maelstrom." Sye remembered how chaotic the rift he was caught in was. "Every now and then, some of the Time Watchers would say they heard a voice, calling for help."

"Is that why you sought me out?" asked Faye. Sye nodded in agreement as he scratched an itch upon his head with a long, sharp fingernail. The light crystals in the hallway blinked off as they neared the Central Node.

"What the…" Faye said, confused. An explosion reverberated throughout the corridor, followed by the echoing blare of the fire alarm. A concussive blast knocked both her and Sye onto the floor. Their escorts however, where not so lucky. The blast had knocked them both back into the wall, causing them to hit their heads rather hard and loose consciousness.

"What the hell was that!?" exclaimed Faye as she scrambled to get up. The hallway was completely dark. The crystals that once shone brightly above them, lay shattered upon the floor.
"this can't be good…" sighed Sye as she stood up in the darkness. His enhanced vision picked up the slightest scraps of light pulsing from the fragments spread across the floor, illuminating the hallway just enough to barely see.

A faint electrical hum came from behind the large metal door ahead of their position, the door to the Central Node. Faye could make out a sliver of blue light that came from a crack beneath of door's frame. As the light intensified, the hum became louder. In an instant, a bright flash illuminated the hallway, blinding Sye and startling Faye.

"The Rift!" exclaimed Sye. A deep rumbling sound emanated from the door as the light died down, bright blue sparks skittered across it's surface. The fur on the back of his neck stood on end. "Look out!"

The door blew off it's hinges and crashed towards Faye, who stood in place, stunned at the spectacle. Sye reacted in a flash, leaping at her and tackling her out of the projectile's destructive path, which crashed into the wall at the end of the hallway. Faye turned herself over as her savior stood back up. She stared into the room opened before them, a blue light pulsed out of what was left of the door frame.

"Sye, what was that?" said Faye as she grasped his hand. He pulled her to her feet, and gazed into the Control Node.

"The Rift." he replied. She followed his gaze into the room, where a swirling blue ball floated behind shattered glass. She took a step forward, only to be stopped by Sye's hand, grasping her shoulder. "It's not safe, we shouldn't get any nearer."
"Don't worry, I'm sure it's safe enough." she explained, grasping his hand. Sye shook his head. What a daredevil, she had almost gotten flattened by a door, and now she wants to go into that room? It was beyond him, he knew not what compelled her, but against his instincts he felt as if it where safe as well.

"Alright, but we must make haste, I don't want to be caught that close to it when it explodes again." he warned as he released his hand from her shoulder, allowing her to proceed.

As they entered the room, they noticed all the Time Watchers where in deep sleep. They looked unharmed by the explosion that blasted the glass and the door to pieces. The swirling globe pulsed brightly as they approached the containment pen. Sye was overcome with a feeling of great danger, his ears pricked up and he grabbed Faye by the arm as fast as he could.

"I remember this…" he said, his yellow eyes fixed upon the pulsing orb before them. "The pulsing, its just like the Chronotronic Backlash that made me who I am now!" Faye pulled away from his grasp, and proceeded to walk closer to the rift. "Faye! Stay away from there, get back!"

Sye's voice was clear, but she couldn't understand what he was saying. It was as if he was talking through a pillow, muffled but clear. A single thought dominated over her mind, to get closer was her only goal. The light became brighter as she neared closer, causing her to squint. Sye's yelling fell flat upon her ears.

"Faye…help….me!" Rasped a voice that came from the rift. Faye opened her eyes wider to peer into the swirling blue maelstrom. The visage of her mentor's enthusiastic countenance was twisted with pain. His white eyes looked dull, spiritless contrary to his normal appearance. Sye's shouts where merely a murmur lingering in her ear.

No matter how loud he shouted, Faye would not respond. He flicked his tail in frustration, if he didn't get her away from the rift, the backlash would consume her. The frantic whispers of the Entity filled his mind, drowning out it's calmer, ambient murmur.

"Save her, you fool!" It hissed. "Her gift is more valuable than your measly life, she is the only one who can save us!"
"Gee, Thanks." he growled back.

Faye was only a few feet from the fracture. Tendrils of energy leaped dangerously close to her, lashing the floor around her, but not touching her. It was almost as if they where there to protect her. As he moved closer to her, the tendrils would lash at him only to miss. He dodged the whips of energy as they tore up the room around him, slashing control panels in two, and smashing devices to pieces. They where getting more accurate. A sting of pain seared through his arm as a tendril slashed into his flesh. He dropped down on all fours, leaping out of the way of the approaching barrage.

"Faye, snap out of it!" he shouted, in spite of the fact he knew she couldn't hear him. The brilliance of the rift, and the intensity of the tendrils increased as Faye reached a hand out in an attempt to touch the glowing fracture. Sye needed more time, if only his powers worked in Sel' Ani!

The image of Faye's mentor looked pitiful, she reached out her had to touch it, to comfort him. Just as her finger neared the rift, she was distracted by the sight of the tendrils lashing around her frantically, and averted her eyes to observe them. They buzzed around her like angry bees, slashing the floor and zooming out of her view. Her eyes bolted after a tendril that diverged from the group, it whistled through the air and smashed into a desk, nearly hitting Sye who was perched on it just moments ago.

In an instant, reality rushed back to her. The Entity's whispers filled her mind once again and she no longer felt the pull that the rift exerted on her.

"Faye, get away from there!" yowled Sye as he danced out of a tendril's path.

He knew it was already too late. The rift pulsed brightly, more so than it had ever before and stuck Faye with a large tendril. It's crackling blue energy enveloped her. A look of horror flashed across her face, and in an instant, she was yanked into the rift. Sye roared with rage and charged after her. He leaped at the glowing fracture, to find himself slamming into the opposite side of the containment frame. He spun around to see if the rift had closed before he got to it, but it floated before him just like it was when he first saw it. He raised his furry, clawed hand and touched the surface, only to find it pass through to the other side as if it did not exist.

The back-up crystals blinked on when he pulled his hand back. The passed out Time Watchers roused from their induced slumber and stood up, one by one. They looked around at the devastated room, the smashed devices and the shattered consoles. They turned their eyes upon Sye, who looked back at them from the pit of the containment frame.

"what?" he said, flatting his ears.
Finally! i got around to typing the first chapter, i have about 5 chapters, each 2x longer than this one.
